The SP was my "home" railroad.   My father commuted on the SP for 30 years, and I probably acquired my fascination with trains while waiting for his evening train at Burlingame.  The train ahead of his did not stop and its thundering by at 65 mph both frightened and fascinated me.  I started working for SP as a summer job in college, and ended up staying with SP for 21 years.  It was sad to see SP merged into UP, but that probably was a good thing since SP had fallen on hard times.  I have distressingly few good pix of the SP during my working years there, mainly because I was focused on work.  Also in those days I was mostly a steam fan and took few diesel pictures.  With the benefit of hindsight I sure wish I had used my camera more back then.  Those diesels are pretty interesting now.
