Costa Rica had two common carrier railways, the Northern Railway which ran from San Jose to the Caribbean coast, and Ferrocarril Electrico al Pacifico which ran to the Pacific port of Puntarenas. The FCalP was interesting because it was an electrified narrow gauge (42-inch) line.  Neither line survives as a through route, although parts of both lines around San Jose have become local transit lines using DMU's,  some trackage on both coasts survives to provide tourist train service for cruise ship passengers, and apparently there is some freight service. These pictures were taken in the mid-1970's.
