Costa Rica - A Life Chasing Trains

Costa Rica had to common carrier railways, the Norther Railway which ran from San Jose to the Caribbean coast, and Ferrocarril Electrico al Pacifico which ran to the Pacific port of Puntarenas. The FCalP was interesting because it was an electrified narrow gauge (42-inch) line.  Neither line survives as a through route, although parts of both lines around San Jose have become local transit lines using DMU's, and some trackage on both coasts survives to provide tourist train service for cruise ship passengers.  These pictures were taken in the mid-1970's.
