These images are all taken in June 1976 on a Central American Rail Tours/Rail Study Tours International tour of South American railways.  It was a quick visit flying into Lima for one night, taking the Central of Peru to Huancayo the next day, spending a day riding the Huancayo and Huancavalica, and a final day bussing back to Lima in order to catch a plane that evening.  The Central of Peru was dieselized but nevertheless one of the most spectacular railways in the world.  There was still a bit of steam switching the Lima docks, and the narrow gauge HyH was still steam powered except for some railcars.   Today the Central of Peru is still operating although passenger service is irregular, and the HyH has been standard gauged and dieselized.
